Successful lipoedema information day in Höchstädt an der Donau

A particularly successful lipoedema information day was held in Höchstädt an der Donau on 4 October 2025. Numerous sufferers, relatives and interested parties took the opportunity to find out more about lipoedema, modern treatment options and the current state of research.

Exchange between lipoedema sufferers and medical experts

The event was organised by the lipoedema self-help group LilyPut under the leadership of Ms Marieluise Bisenbach. As a sufferer herself, she gave a moving talk about her personal journey with lipoedema and the importance of self-help, exchange and education. Her authentic words conveyed courage and hope and created an atmosphere of trust in which many visitors found themselves.

This was followed by two presentations by our lipoedema experts: Prof Dr N. Broer and Prof Dr P. Heidekrüger, both of whom have many years of experience in the diagnosis and treatment of lipoedema.

Medical principles and current treatment options for lipoedema

Prof Dr N. Broer devoted his lecture to the medical basics of lipoedema. He explained the typical symptoms, staging and conservative treatment options such as compression therapy, exercise and diet. He was particularly keen to dispel common misconceptions: lipoedema is not a consequence of obesity, but a chronic fat distribution disorder in its own right, which is often genetically determined.

In the second lecture, Prof Dr P. Heidekrüger presented the surgical options for lipoedema treatment. He discussed modern liposuction procedures, the differences between outpatient and inpatient treatment and the importance of safe and customised surgical planning. His practical examples gave the participants a realistic and optimistic insight into the current possibilities of lipoedema treatment.

A strong signal for education and support

The Lipoedema Information Day in Bavaria impressively demonstrated the importance of combining medical expertise and self-help experience. The great response and positive feedback from participants emphasised the high demand for information and the growing awareness of this often misunderstood disease.
