Lipoedema is a fat distribution disorder of the subcutaneous fatty tissue. Women are primarily affected by the uncontrolled increase in fat on the legs, hips, buttocks and in some cases also on the arms.
The chronic disease progresses in three different stages and usually occurs after a hormonal change. This is why lipoedema often breaks out during puberty, after pregnancy or during the menopause. Taking the pill can also promote the disease.
Side effects of the disease, which are no less restrictive than the visible increase in fat, can include pain and increased sensitivity of the skin to pressure. They are often triggered by the fact that the blood vessels become more permeable and fluid accumulates in the tissue.

Why are before and after pictures good for the patient?

It is therefore essential for those affected to consult a doctor at an early stage in order to prevent complaints and an increase in fat deposits. Often, the only long-term solution to the disease is surgery - liposuction.
However, before those affected decide to take such a big step, they usually want to see before and after comparisons so that they can form their own opinion.
Using these before and after pictures, doctors can show patients the different symptoms and degrees of lipoedema and the visible changes after liposuction.
Unfortunately, it is not permitted in Germany to show before and after pictures of surgical procedures in public.

Before and after pictures are prohibited in Germany

According to the Therapeutic Products Advertising Act (Section 11 (1) sentence 3 no. 1 HWG), it is therefore prohibited in Germany to advertise with before-and-after pictures of a plastic surgery procedure.
According to the law, before-and-after comparisons of medical devices are therefore not permitted outside of specialised medical circles. The aim of this law is to prevent patients from making a hasty decision to undergo such an operation.
In a judgement dated 15 April 2021, the Regional Court (LG) of Cologne ruled that linking before and after pictures of cosmetic surgery on Instagram or on a specialist doctor's website is anti-competitive (Ref.: 81 O 106/20, not final).

Where can you see before and after photos?

However, as different laws apply in different countries, we are able to show you before and after comparisons on our Austrian website. This enables us to show you the differences even before a personal consultation.
You will find on the following information page „Lipoedema surgery before and after“ Visual comparisons before and after lipoedema surgery at different stages.
